| Association News | The following are being inducted into the Iowa Girls’ Coaches Association Volleyball Hall of Fame for 2008. The ceremony will take place on November 22 in Carroll, Iowa. The Hall of Fame ceremony will be held as part of the Senior All Star Weekend. The inductees are: Bob Beardsley Bob was the head coach at Dubuque Senior High School from 1975-84. During his tenure, he compiled at 280-46-25 record. He won two state tournaments, in 1980 and 1983. His 1980 team was undefeated. He was runner-up all other state appearances, 1975, 1977, 1978, and 1979. In 1980, Beardsley was nominated for National Coach of the Year. He coached the Senior All-Star game in 1978 and 1984. In 1976, 1980, and 1984, he was named Mississippi Valley Conference Coach of the Year. Prior to his coaching at Senior, Bob coached at Washington Jr. High, posting a 27-2 record in three years. In 1976, Bob established state wide statistics. After coaching, Bob became a volleyball official, working the state final in 1988, becoming one of the first to coach and referee a state final. Bob also coached boy’s golf for 13 years. Bob currently lives in Peosta, Iowa Barb Bakker Barb Bakker coached at Dike and Dike-New Hartford for 24 years from 1979-2001. Barb compiled 732-150-42 record. She led her teams to the state tournament 16 times. She won 7 state titles, 1985, 1986, 1987, 1988, 1989, 1994, and 1997. She finished second five times. She was named state coach of the year 5 times, including all classes 3 of those 5. Barb co-chaired the 1st organized All-Star match in 1989, which became the Senior All Star Weekend. She was in inducted into the National High School Athletic Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 2007. Barb served on the Player Hall of Fame Committee, All-State and Senior All-Star selection committee, presented at numerous clinics and camps during her years of coaching. Barb currently teaches at the University of Northern Iowa after teaching for the Dike and Dike-New Hartford School Districts for 33 years. Barb and her husband, Chuck, live in Dike, Iowa. They have three children and one grandchild. Jody Dosser Jody Dosser coached at Osage High School from 1973-2000. Jody compiled a 697-249-48 record. She was named one of the winningest high school coaches for the State of Iowa, by the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union. She led Osage to 10 state tournaments. She reached the semi-final three times, 1980, 1991, and 1993. Her teams won 17 conference championships. Jody was named Senior All Star Coach in 1992, and 1996. She served on the IGHSAU Advisory Board Committee. Jody served on the Junior Olympic (JO) Volleyball committee during the 1970’s and AAU Chairperson during the 1990’s. She organized JO and AAU clubs and tournaments during her high school career. After high school, Jody coached at Waldorf College from 2001-2007. Waldorf captured the Midwest Collegiate Conference Tournament title in 2007 and posted a record of 19-9. Under her reign, Waldorf earned runner-up honors at the 2005 Conference Tournament, reached the semi-finals in 2006, and advanced to two Region VII Tournaments. Jody’s overall match record at Waldorf was 137-135. She has a combine coaching record of 834-384-48 Jody retired from teaching and coaching in 2008. Jody and her husband, Rick had one son, Jeremiah, who was killed in a motorcycle accident on March 22, 2007. Jody and Rick are both retired and now live in Arizona. Karen Mukai Karen Mukai served the sport of volleyball working as on official for 28 years, 1974-2002. During those years, Karen worked 15 state tournaments from 1980 to 1998. Out of those 15 state tournaments worked, 10 were state finals. During district and regional tournament play, Karen worked a minimum of two matches each year, with a high of 8 in 1997. Karen worked during the post season a total of over 115 matches. Officials were ranked by coaches on a 5 point scale with a 1 being the best. Karen during 13 years of getting ranked averaged a 1.61. In 1985, Karen received a ranking of 1.16. In 2002 Karen was named by the National Federation of Interscholastic Officials Association, the Iowa Volleyball Official of the Year. Karen worked for the Waterloo Community School District for 34 years as a home economics teacher and media specialist. Karen lives in Cedar Falls with her husband, Teru.
